GOURMET'S GUIDE TO RUGBY CUISINE
25/5/10 Wests have always maintained a high standard of canteen cuisine at their O'Connor ground. They have consistently served the best sausages sandwiches on the canteen circuit. However this year they have broken new ground. As well as their regular range of snag sangers, bacon and egg rolls and drinks they have extended their range to include hot dogs and the aptly named Westy Deluxe Roll. This combination of cheese, sausage, bacon, eggs and caramelised onions served on a fresh crusty roll is the piece de resistance of the menu. A pleasing addition to the sideline experience was that they served tea and coffee in china cups. Their high quality cuisine and pleasant service have earned them a 2 Scrum Cap rating ( with 3 being the highest) in the Gourmet's Guide
THE IRON CHEFS
Posted 8/04/10
Each year we call for volunteers for our barbecue, which has developed a most formidable reputation as one of the best Rugby eating venues in Canberra. Staffed by dedicated Dads, who have become known far and wide as "The Iron Chefs" it is a great gathering place on each of our home game days, from first light when we feed the ground setup volunteers, right through the day when we feed the masses and complement the brilliant work of our Canteen volunteers, right through to kick-off in the First XV game at 3.00 pm.
Over the years, the Iron Chefs have formed a tight bond and a great social group which has been known to organise the odd social event, golf day etc, so if you are that way inclined, would like to meet some like-minded individuals, and have a bit of fun along the way, please get in touch with the Rugby Master, Max Spencer or the webmaster
Our motto is Multis Nuitrimens Extrico Consilium For the non-latin speakers this means ‘great food, not to mention free advice...(whether you want it or not..)’ You will not only be trained in the finer points of cooking but will also learn from the Masters the art of providing free advice across an unlimited range of subjects. No topic is a challenge - no question is too trivial - no answer is anything less than prescient. Another incentive is the opportunity to attend official "Iron Chef" events such as out of season tours and sporting challenges where you can test your skills against the old hands, your betting skills against the experts of the turf, and experience the gastronomic delights on 6 home days in 2010!. Breakfast and lunch provided. If you can only do an hour or two that is no problem. Prospective Apprentices should contact Max Spencer, the Rugby Master or email webmaster@maristrugby.com.au to arrange initial screening and suitability for these prestigious and highly sought after positions. First home game is 15th May. Come on board! |
