FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
- How do I register my son(s)? ...click here!
- Who is my coach ... we won't know that until closer to the end of Term 1
- What team will I be in? ... that will depend on grading - initially, training will be conducted in age groups until you are graded! You will be graded into Royals (div 1), Sky (div 2) or Blues (div 3).
- When do I train? ... once you are graded your coach/manager will let you know, but most training takes place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- When is the first game? ...your coach and manager might organise a "friendly" but the first organised games will be at the Annual Knockout carnival in early April.
- When does the season get underway? .... 5th May - but also look at our Calendar ..and please note that the Draws tend to change at very short notice at the start of the season, while clubs and teams sort themselves out, so the final draw is not normally published until Thursday evening when the Rugby Master receives them from ACT Junior Rugby and passes them along to the webmaster.
- Rest assured that any late changes affecting away travel will also be followed up with an email so that we cause the least inconvenience to you (this is particularly relevant to the more junior teams who tend to play further afield at places such as Yass, Cooma, Jindabyne and Goulburn - the fun of touring, folks!! - nothing like an organised BBQ lunch at a winery on the way home from the Yass game, or Collector pub, on the way home from Goulburn, or a nice stop in Jindabyne!! ....a great way to foster team harmony and make new friends.......DON'T LEAVE IT TO YOUR TEAM MANAGER - MAKE THAT YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE GANG!)
- What time will I be playing? .. we are assuming that times are the same as last season, so see the attached table
- When does it finish? Hopefully it finishes for your son(s) on the first weekend of September, when they win their Grand Final at Canberra Stadium in front of thousands of screaming supporters!
- What if my son shows potential as a rep player? ..the school will recognise it pretty quickly and your son will be given every opportunity to progress - under 12/13/14/15 players will usually trial in May or June and play a tournament around the Queens Birthday weekend, Under 16 play in a national tournament in October and Opens (under 18) play in Schoolboys tournaments in July, culminating in selection for the Australian Schools XV's who tour later in the season.
- What about the holidays..... no normal competition rounds during school holidays ...(you won't miss out on your Ski trip!!) ....see the Calendar.
- What about other tournaments - generally, one or two tournaments during the season for certain age groups.. there is also a 7's tournament the week after Grand Final, run by Uni-Norths Juniors, but this is usually a volunteer event, not officially entered by the College or the Club; (separate insurance might be needed for that - check with the Rugby Master)
- What grounds will my son(s) be playing at? .. Most Marist teams play their home games at the College, but usually two or three junior age groups will be allocated Garran Oval (near the hospital), as we cannot handle the full complement of 23 teams at the school.. a complete list of the away grounds is found by clicking here......however, early in the season, we will provide Google Maps when we publish the Weekly Draws.
- Is there a Presentation/ awards ceremony? Yes, there is a presentation afternoon/ evening (dates and times TBA, sometime in September, just after the season ends, in the Great Hall.

- Jersey - purchase from the College uniform shop (though it is supplied for newly registered players to Marist rugby and from 2013 this will also include some selected age groups such that players receive a replacement jersey every 2/3 seasons)
- Shorts - purchased from the College uniform shop, as they MAY carry important sponsor logo, your son needs to ensure that he wears them and not a substitute pair).
- socks - not supplied - your expense

- How else do we raise funds?..we have sponsors, major and team sponsors. All are welcome to tip in a small amount as a team sponsor and you will be well recognised on the website, in the newsletters, at functions and at our annual sponsors' day function in mid-season.
- Do the boys go on Annual Tours? - generally, tours are at the discretion of the school and those teachers who are willing to give up their time...it is not an automatic right to expect a tour each and every season, but Marist Rugby considers itself an elite Rugby school, which will give senior players the opportunity to learn and develop as opportunities arise. More junior players will occasionally get the opportunity to take part in camps and some inter-school tournaments, but these are not a set part of the annual program.... and, of course the ACT Junior Rugby Union and ACT Schools Rugby Union have representative programs commencing at the Under 12 level, going right through to Australian Schoolboys level..
- Does Marist have any famous players .. yes, quite a lot of representatives including Wallabies such as Joe Roff, Rob Egerton, Geoff Didier and Matt O'Connor, Sevens representatives such as Michael Hodge, Super 15 players such as Joe Roff & Julian Salvi & Anthony Hegarty (Brumbies) and Phoenix Battye (Western Force) ... and many more reps at Schoolboys, under 20 and under 21 levels ....check out the Honour Roll
- How am I kept informed of things? ...electronic newsletters, mass emails and, of course, this web site, during the season...over Summer we have a breather but we usually keep the site going with interesting Rugby bits and pieces from around the world.
