U14 Royal v Wests - Rd5, 4 June 2016

This week’s match truly reflects part of Mr Richard Sidorko’s address, in the Enews, at the start of Term Two; “Marist offers sport so that boys can play for the school with their mates in a sport they enjoy. It is about doing something for the school, doing it according to the College’s values and standards, and extending one’s own self physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.”

Well, against Wests on a very heavy track, I believe the boys did exactly that. While there will always be areas to focus on and the result was not what we had hoped, the way the boys came together, stood up and  played for each other is certainly what we were hoping for. I think we would all agree that if the boys continue to play like they did on Saturday and build on this solid base they will turn these narrow losses into well-deserved wins.

Congratulations to all the boys on a terrific turnaround from the week before.

U14 Royal v St Edmunds - Rd 3, 21 May 2016

Round 3 saw a return to Marist for the gala day against St Edmunds.  It was a good day for Rugby, but unfortunately that is where it ended.  After two quick tries the boys knew they were in for a hard day at the office.  While you don’t win premierships at this time of year, it is important to remember that when against teams of that calibre you need to move up and take the space from them.

Although it was a hard day, the boys should be encouraged by the support they received.  They should continue to listen to their coaches, work hard and rebuild in preparation for this week.  Good luck for round 4.

U14 Royal v Grammar - Rd, 2 14 May 2016

On a fine morning for rugby, Marist under 14 Royal travelled to Grammar for our second round clash, the boys and parents where pumped and ready to go. The game started with some dominant phases through the forwards mounting strong pressure on Grammar’s defences this provided our backs with many opportunities.

The game saw many offloads which turned into some magic team tries through the forwards and backs with exceptional ball security.  Grammar continued to apply pressure on our attack with strong defence especially from Grammar’s inside centre who kept boys guessing with some very tough hits, I’m sure some of our boys are feeling it today (Sunday). Our defence was exceptional with our boys holding Grammar try less, half time 28 nil and full time 59 nil.   Highlight of the game was our second try which came from a move the boys call MEATLOVERS which was a cross over move between the forwards with a pass out the back (outstanding when a planned move comes off).

Well done boys, let’s keep it going this week at Marist with a tough clash against Eddies.

U14 Royal v Daramalan - Rd 1, 7 May 2016

A clear, sunny autumn morning presented the boys with perfect weather for their return to the Marist No.1 oval. A new group of boys led by Gary and Paul were well prepared for last year’s premiers, Daramalan. A good start saw a fast paced game with both sides having opportunities; unfortunately it was Daramalan who capitalised to cross the line on two occasions. The boys persisted and with some forward momentum crossed the line late in the first half.

The second half saw a similar start to the first with Daramalan taking a penalty goal to extend the lead. Marist worked their way up the field with a charge down leading to Marist try.  A late try to Daramalan took the final score to 20-12.

This was a solid start to the season and demonstrates the pre-season work is paying off. The boys should be congratulated for their perseverance and hold their heads high and look forward to the year ahead.
