Match Report and Photos by Lee Campbell (witht the help of Michael!)

It was the perfect day for a game by the sea, the sun was shining, the wind was low and the boys were ready to go!!
Paul and Rich had them training hard pre match so by the time kick off came the boys were running hard, focused on a game plan and ready for a win.  They had the wind knocked from them sails early on with Batemans Bay breaking through and scoring the first points on the match.

The boys came back in a wave of destruction with Sylas Daniel making a break and running the length of the field to plant one right under the posts giving Jack Moloney the perfect opportunity to convert the try and put us in the lead 7-5.  Batemans Bay fought hard to come back putting in a solid effort to push the line, but our boys defence was like a solid wall of white wash and they weren’t going to lose their lead without a fight.  Spud (Spencer Scott) and Will Hill  were not going to let the game be a wash out  and both made tries before the half time siren sending us into the break with a 17-5 lead.

Our boys came into the second half like a school of starving piranha and were all over the ball like it was fresh meat, Batemans Bay were trying hard to keep their heads above water but our solid defence was deterring them from heading anywhere near their try line.  Our attack was quick and sharp and after another strong break and hard run from Sylas we had hooked ourselves another try.  It wasn’t long before Hunter Fogarty was able to take the ball and make a break passing it out to the wing for Michael Campbell to score our 5th try for the game and with Jack converting another one through the posts we had gained ourselves a solid lead.

Half way through the second half the boys were as hungry for a win as a shark in a seal colony and were on some of their best game of the season.  It wasn’t long before Noah Bouquiaux managed a pick and drive from the back of the scrum to plant another one in over the try line.  Jake Mead followed it up with a strong run from half field getting in over the line in the corner.  Just before the final buzzer Patrick Iles took the ball from the backline switch to again score in the corner, giving us a solid win and final score of 44-5 taking the game hook, line and sinker.........yes I went there!!!

After a great game and some fish and chips, it was back up the hill home in time for the school holiday break.

Well it was nice that rain held off just until kick off!

From the Marist’s kick off it was on.  But the wet grass and wet ball made control difficult for both sides with numerous knock ons early on – this didn’t change much during both halves.
Grammar’s back line worked the ball out to their wing, through the mud pile of centre field, which saw them go over for the first try of the game in the corner and with a good boot saw the score 7 to zip.
There was a great tackle by Noah Bouquiaux that all parents on the side line felt and I’m sure I didn’t see that Grammar boy run at Noah again!
Hunter made a fantastic sprint carving up the Grammar Defence setting up the first try for Marist by Spencer ’Spud’ Scott.  We missed the conversion, score now 7-5 to Grammar.
After much sideways running by Marist, Darcy Fogarty was able to break a number of tackles and fly to our try line with Grammar in pursuit who didn’t catch him and over he went for our second try of the half.
The score by half time is now 10-7 in our favour.

The first ten minutes of the second half was tough fought and uneventful save for some  whistle practice by the man in charge.  Again there was plenty of drop ball leading to scrum practice for both sides.
Some tough defence from Marist kept Grammar from scoring in the corner in the corner once again.
Marist was putting on the pressure over a number of phases at the Grammar try line and we thought we were over but their defence held Jack up.
A mistake by Grammar saw a scrum pack down not far from their line – Jake went over and Jack converted.
Some good play through the centre with kicks from Blake and chase by Hunter was happening but we were unable to capitalise – Hunter missing the try by a finger!!!
Great defence from our boys in the second half kept Grammar scoreless.

Final score Marist 17 def Grammar 7

Cheers

It was a very wet and cold start to the day with Vikings kicking off for the beginning of a very scrappy wet weather encounter with Marist for the first time this season.

Marist had plenty of chances to score in the first half but we just couldn’t hang on to the football.    Vikings 1sttry was against the run of play.  Conversion was unsuccessful.    Not long after the 1st, there was another run away try by the Vikings. Conversion successful. Score  0-12.

Another soft try to the Vikings after some weak defence by Marist with a successful conversion.  Score  0-19.     Finally just before half time, Marist scored.  Conversion successful by Jack Moloney.  Score at the end of 1st half put us in an position to come back.  Score 7-19

Unfortunately, Vikings scored first in the second half with an unsuccessful conversion.  Score 7-24.      Vikings speed on the outside was too much for Marist and they were over the line again.   Conversion unsuccessful.   Score 7-29.    The wet weather was definitely not affecting Viking’s game and yet again they scored.   Conversion successful.  Score 36-7.

The one and only chance we had in the second half was enough to see Matt Back go over for a five pointer.    Conversion successful by Jack Moloney.     Score 36-14.

Marist just couldn’t hold up their defence today and that showed with Vikings going straight up the middle and scoring their 7th try .   Conversion successful  43-14

With the boys warmed up and the weather Gods in our favour, the team hit the field ready and firing to play their arch enemies, St Edmunds in what was to be a classic Marist V Eddie’s grudge match.
Once the whistle blew, both teams started with great enthusiasm and passion however; after 5 minutes of play in our half, we had succumbed to a 5-0 penalty count due to poor discipline around the ruck. Eddies took advantage of their field position and scored a try on the left to lead 5 – 0.
With their tails between the legs, Marist started to play better field position and support and through good phase ball and solid support by the forwards, Noah B was able to score a strong try running through the opposition forward pack. Conversion successful and Marist leading 7-5.
Immediately after receiving the ball, Marist made forward ground with the use of their forward pack however some loose ball possession in the back line saw the ball ripped by an Eddie’s player who went on to score under the posts. Conversion successful and Eddies lead 12 – 7.
Marist played solid defence against a well-structured Eddies team and through solid rucking and mauling by the Marist pack, we were able to gain possession. With the backline running straight and passing well, Marist were able to score a try by Jake, who showed great support and attacking running; scoring under the posts. Conversion successful and Marist up 14 – 12 leading into half time.
Marist started the second half solidly with some great ball running by Spud into the forwards who at one point, thought he was a winger; almost scoring on the left wing. Marist took advantage of their position on the ground and dominance of Eddies in the forwards making hit up after hit up, like a battering ram. Eddie’s, unable to stop this forward momentum succumbed to another try by Marist, this time by Spud under the posts. Conversion successful. Marist ahead 21 – 12.
With a strong lead, Marist started a period of lazy but solid defence incurring 1 x 10 minute sin bin for an offside penalty. Eddies took advantage of the player numbers and scored an easy try taking the score line 21 – 17.
Marist incurred another 10 minute sin bin for a questionable head high tackle which lead to a period of penalties from both teams through undisciplined play.
With the clock counting down and only 14 players on the field, Marist showed true grit to keep up ball possession, strong support play and good phase ball to score next to the posts from a hard and straight run by Patrick I. Conversion successful. Final Score. 28 – 17 to Marist.
Well done lads!!

Royals kicked off and Sylus Daniels took the ball and had a barnstorming run up the centre for our first touch of the ball.

The first few minutes were an arm wrestle with most of the play being in the middle of the field and all the work being done by the forwards.

Royals edged closer to their goal line but then Will Hill had a great run, dodging and weaving through the opposition taking the play back from the Royals line to the middle of the field.

Spencer Scott made the first try. Jack Maloney's conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Blake Wilson took a well placed pass from Darcey Fogarty and powered down the sideline, no one could catch him and he scored. Jack Maloney's kick was good and the score was 12-0.

Some aggressive ruck work left Noah Bouquiaux with a blood nose. He came off to be treated. Luckily it was quickly dealt with and he was sent back in.

Marist was tackled close to their goal line and got a 5m scrum. Sylus Daniels made a break from the scrum and scored next to the posts. The kick from Jack Maloney was good.

Marist worked together to drive up the line and resulted in a try from Noah McLaughlin. The kick from Jack was again good. The score at half time was 26-0.

At the start of the second half Marist worked their way to the goal line then Royals gave away a penalty. Noah Bouquiaux took advantage and barged his way over the line. Jack Maloney conversion is good.

A miscommunication saw Marist knock on 20m out of the Royals line. Royals pushed to their goal line but Will Hill was able to steal the ball in a one-on-one stand-up tackle.

Marist were parked in their own 22 but couldn't sustain the defence and gave away a try in the corner. Royals couldn't convert so the score was 33-5.

On the kick-off the ball starts on Royals side off half-way. Marist work the ball down and across the field to allow Jake Mead to score in the corner. Jack Maloney converts.

Darcy Fogarty scores from the broken play and the conversion from Jack Maloney is successful. The score is 47-5

On the kick-off Sylus Daniels once again took the ball and made ground. We receive a penalty and Will Hill as he had done all game had a great run through the Royals defence.

Marist lose the ball and a scrum is packed. Marist push hard and force Royals to kick out from the scrum. The ball is charged down by Will Hill and Marist regained possession. The ball was quickly passed out to Darcey Fogarty and he scores again. The kick from Jack Maloney is good.

On the kick-off Noah Bouquiaux takes the ball up and is tackled. From the ruck the ball comes out to Hunter Fogarty who makes a break down the sideline. The ball was passed to Darcey Fogarty then to Jake Mead. Jake is taken out over the sideline.

A scrum is packed and Marist wins the ball against the feed. Jake Mead passes out to Hunter Fogarty who darts through the opposition and scores under the post. Jack Maloney kick was good. An excellent result for Jack, 8 from 9 attempts. The final score 61-5.
