Marist 5 - Easts 26
We came up against our strongest opposition to date and we were tested.
However, coach Hayden congratulated the boys on our best game, yet, and praised the boys for their commitment.
Easts three tries came from a couple of defensive lapses, but in general our defence was very strong and every boy tried his hardest.
Everyone had a strong game and, in particular, Mitch Spencer and Max Rosin, who were named best forward and best back, respectively. Well done, guys, particularly in the second half when we only conceded one try and Mitch came very close to scoring a second for us.
Three things to work on at training:
t will all come with practice and now is the time for us to be learning good habits. Well done, again, boys

Three things to work on at training:
- Two handed carry - the "League Carry" under the arm is causing us to lose too much possession as it is easier for the opposition to rip it, and it cuts down your options for passing
- Passing and support
- being more hungry to grab the loose ball when it is on the deck
t will all come with practice and now is the time for us to be learning good habits. Well done, again, boys

RD 2 - -V- GRAMMAR - a fantastic report from Jeanne Ruiz
The Entertainers do it again!!
It was 9am Saturday morning and 13 strapping young lads had arrived ( with their dedicated and coffee infused parents) to take on Grammar ... And boy did they turn up to play! 10 Tries to none with a 50% conversion rate.
These boys mean business. Thomas and Mitchell as our two top Try scorers - 3 a piece and equally notable Tries from Charlie (1), Finn (1), Griffen (1), and Max Rosin (1).
Thomas made the first Goal line contact to land our first Try and followed up throughout the game with some very fancy foot work;
Finn raced in to take Try #2 with a fantastic near full field run; Third Try was young Griffen with such pace that the Grammar boys were well out of puff; 4th and 5th Tries went to Mitchell - the conversion for the 4th coming from car park vicinity - what a kick!!
Max Rosin made the 6th Try and had a great run from a steel; and it was back to Mitchell for the 7th; Thomas returned with the 8th; Charlie the 9th after coming so very close to one earlier in the game; and Thomas rounded us off with the 10th Try.
The game was a great spectator experience (even for this rather rugby uneducated mum!)
Notably many more Tries than passes ... Maybe something for next weeks training. (yes, Tom and Hayden please work on that and on their preparation for contact)
It was a real team effort and all the boys should be impressed with the outcome!
Joseph maintained a solid back line and made some impressive tackles;
Daniel made an awesome run up the sideline; Max Ruiz kept the tackling up (without head gear, much to mums frustration) as usual - no free runs for Grammar and plenty of running and rucking;
James was on the ball all game - predicting many long balls and ready for them all; Marcus made the sensational conversion;
Pat just missed out on the first Try but was amongst the play the whole game;
Nick continued with his solid tackling and awesome ruck tactics.... This very rugby uneducated mum really enjoyed the game - keep it up! Looking forward to the next one
Awards today ...
Best forward; James Orr
Best Back: Tom Grace

With the Wallaby selection still in the balance, the Marist team known as the ‘Entertainers’ took to the field against the old foe, St Edmunds. However Marist was far too strong for the blue and whites, scoring 9 meat pies to 3. Some of the memorable moments were Mitchell Spencer’s hat trick of tries and Max Ruiz bagging a double. There were tries to Charlie Gates, Thomas Grace who looked dangerous all day and a strong try to Griffen Proud. Charlie Nagel was rewarded for his efforts with a try as well, showing he has a lot to offer this year. |
The Entertainers may be their name but behind this title is a lot of hard work, for instance when Daniel Varley took on a much bigger opponent and not only tackled him but then dispossessed him of the ball. Another example was a great tackle by Max Rosin who dropped a player in full flight like a shot Rhino. Sam O’Rourke is relishing his move from front row to the centres, with some bustling runs. A strong game was also had by Joseph Young, James Orr, Marcus Nilsson, Finn Hastie, Nick Halikotis and Patrick Campbell. Best Forward - Mitchell Spencer Best Back: Charlie Gates |
